Damon Stewart has joined Broadcast Pix as the company’s western region sales manager.
Stewart has spent more than 15 years working in the professional video industry, including 10 years at Apple in several management positions. For three years, he managed Apple’s pro video and film value-added reseller channel for the western United States. Most recently, he worked at Advanced Digital Video in Roseville, CA, where he provided video production consulting to several California state agencies. Stewart will be based in Roseville, CA.
The TV industry had reason to cheer in 2011, with ad spending climbing 4.5 percent for the year, according to the latest figures from The Nielsen Company.
The final installment of Nielsen’s “Advertising & Audiences Report” for 2011, reported that TV took the lion’s share of ad dollars. more
The management committee of the Future of Broadcast Television (FoBTV) Initiative, formed in Las Vegas during the 2012 NAB Show, April 25 announced its leadership team.
Mark Richer has been elected FoBTV chairman. Richer is president of the Advanced Television Systems Committee, one of the 13 global technology and standards organizations that founded the FoBTV Initiative. Phil Laven, chairman of the Digital Video Broadcasting Project, was named FoBTV vice chairman. more
The NAB expressed disappointment with the FCC’s decision April 27 to require broadcasters to place their political file online.
“NAB respectfully disagrees with today’s FCC decision, and we’re disappointed that the commission rejected compromise proposals proffered by broadcasters that would have brought greater transparency to political ad buying,” NAB Executive VP of Communications Dennis Wharton said in a statement on the association’s website. more

BBC R&D and Xilinx demonstrated Stagebox, a prototype camera-back device, at the 2012 NAB Show that enables the transport of professional quality video over Internet Protocol (IP)-based networks.
The BBC R&D Stagebox can be attached to the back of any broadcast-quality camera. Due to the integration of more system functionality onto a Xilinx field programmable gate array (FPGA), expensive and cumbersome SDI/audio/talkback and ancillary cabling can be replaced with a single network cable (fiber or Cat6). The small form factor device expands the reach of video networks to remote production sites and studios using IP networks. more
