At IBC, we will again be holding our Pick Hit awards for products. The award is in recognition of the innovative technology developed and shown at an IBC stand.
The Broadcast Engineering Pick Hit awards are the longest-running and most prestigious technical awards in the industry. With a 26-year history (the first Pick Hit awards were conferred at NAB in 1984), the award has become the most coveted technology award at both IBC and NAB. more
The winner of the IBC2011 International Honor for Excellence is Sir David Attenborough, in recognition of his career in television and natural history, organizers of this year’s IBC gathering have announced.
Attenborough’s career spans almost 60 years, with his Atlantic Productions documentary, “Flying Monsters 3D with Sir David Attenborough,” one of the most acclaimed programs commissioned by Sky 3D. more
Giovanni Ballocca, digital television project manager at Sisvel Technology, will deliver a technical presentation of the company’s 3-D Tile Format at IBC2011’s Connected World on Sept. 11.
Ballocca will describe the 3-D Tile Format and discuss its use by Italian broadcasters Quartarete and Città Digitali and by Astra through a satellite positioned at 19.2 degrees East. more
Autoscript has won a contract to supply a large portfolio of prompting equipment for a new media center being launched by Turkmenistan’s public television broadcaster. The Turkish systems integrator Bilgipark was instrumental in the sale.
The new media center will run six television channels, producing a variety of live productions, including news, sports programs and live studio shows. more
The Rose d’Or Global Entertainment Television Festival is using the Digital Rapids MediaMesh content delivery system to streamline and simplify submission of entries for the Rose d’Or Awards competition.
The use of MediaMesh enables entries to be submitted electronically for the first time using a secure Web-based portal, while the MediaMesh RX receiving appliance provides an easy, immediate interface for judges to review submissions. more
Camera Corps has expanded into a new 12,000sq ft headquarters at Byfleet, Surrey, England. The new premises provides Camera Corps with room to assemble large systems used to handle major sports events, such as the Olympics and the World Cup, said company founder and managing director Laurie Frost. more
Calrec Audio is entering the U.S. and international rental market for broadcast audio equipment through an expansion of its distribution partnership with Bexel.
Calrec’s relationship with Bexel began in 2003, when Bexel’s Audio Specialties Group (ASG) became exclusive distributor of Calrec products in the western United States — an arrangement that expanded to include the southeastern and south-central United States in 2007. more
The market for television sets in developing regions is projected to grow over the next five years, while TV shipments in the rest of the world are expected to either decline or stabilize, according to an update from research firm IMS Research. IMS Research, which last month announced an update of its “Television Shipment Database and Forecast,” forecasts that in the next five years TV set shipments will increase in Latin America, Eastern Europe, MEA and most of Asia Pacific, with a compound annual growth rate of 2.2 percent. more
Satellite interference, which each year causes millions of dollars in losses to the satellite industry, will be in the crosshairs of industry professionals at this year’s International Satellite-Industry Forum, Sept. 8 at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Amsterdam. With the theme “Interference – The Counter-Offensive,” the forum is will explore the efforts of broadcasters and satellite industry leaders as they have collaborated to combat satellite interference worldwide. more
Production and digital cinema exhibition will take center stage during IBC2011 in Amsterdam, Sept. 8-13, at the IBC Production Village and the IBC Big Screen. At the IBC Production Village, those attending the convention will get the chance to get hands-on with cutting-edge camera technologies. Stereoscopic 3-D cameras, DSLRs and specialty cameras will be on hand for attendees to compare and rate. A variety of camera equipment will be available for attendees to evaluate. Camera experts also will be available to answer questions and offer buying advice. more
