Utah Scientific announced that ZDF (Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen), Germany’s national public television broadcaster, has deployed the company’s UTAH-400 digital routing switcher at the core of a new studio facility in Mainz dedicated to 24/7 news broadcasting. The routing system was sold and installed through Utah Scientific’s German distributor and systems integrator SHM Broadcast, GMBH. Omneon announced a new family of MPEG-2 MediaPorts for its Spectrum and MediaDeck video servers that will be showcased at IBC2008. These MPEG-2 encode/decode MediaPorts are based on the same codec technology in the popular MediaPort 5200 and 5300 series, but now offer double the ingest density — increased from two to four channels — to provide enhanced price/performance while also using less power.
