FROM THE BRIEFING ROOM: Omneon doubles HD ingest density and adds simultaneous proxies to MPEG-2 MediaPorts

Omneon announced a new family of MPEG-2 MediaPorts for its Spectrum and MediaDeck video servers that will be showcased at IBC2008. These MPEG-2 encode/decode MediaPorts are based on the same codec technology in the popular MediaPort 5200 and 5300 series, but now offer double the ingest density — increased from two to four channels — to provide enhanced price/performance while also using less power. In addition, Omneon has added the ability of the MediaPort 5320 and 5220 series to generate 1-Mbps MPEG-1 proxies in real time, enabling fast access to proxy material for low-res previewing, browsing, and editing.
