SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Auralex Acoustics, Inc., the industry leader in innovative sound control solutions, continues its leadership in creating environmentally friendly products with the introduction of EcoTech, the company’s first green acoustical panel, at this year’s AES show (Booth 301). Earlier this year, the company announced the first green acoustical foam product on the market, Eco-Friendly StudioFoam.
EcoTech brand acoustic panels are manufactured with a proprietary formulation of 100% recycled polyester fibers. EcoTech panels are truly “green”; reducing the ecological footprint of acoustic treatment and our dependence on fossil fuels, including foreign crude oil. The EcoTech family of products are designed with the environment in mind, yet retain the longevity and acoustical properties for which Auralex is known. Auralex EcoTech is manufactured without harmful Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC’s), which have been implicated in the depletion of the ozone layer. more

Innovative New Range Of Microphone Suspension Products Makes Its Debut
Stroud, UK, September 2008: Rycote’s major launch in 2008 has been the complete range of InVision microphone suspensions, which dispense with the elasticated cradles traditionally used to reduce microphone handling noise, and can be seen at the Rycote stand during this year’s IBC show. Instead, the eight-strong InVision range is based around flexible but virtually unbreakable W-shaped clips, known as Lyres and available in several different sizes, which provide a more efficient isolation from unwanted vibrations than traditional suspensions. more
Rycote Introduce Wind-noise Protection For Compact Digital Field Recorders
Stroud, UK, September 2008: Windshield specialist Rycote are announcing several new additions to their range of Mini Windjammers for compact microphones and built-in camcorder mics at this year’s IBC show in Amsterdam.
Rycote forged its reputation providing windshields to professional broadcasters who needed to record on location without the intrusion of wind noise. The more recent Mini Windjammer range was created to offer similar wind-noise protection to users of modern camcorders with built-in miniature microphones. more
Innovative Suspension Introduced On All Rycote Modular Systems At IBC 2008
Stroud, UK, September 2008: Rycote, the UK-based manufacturer of innovative microphone suspension and windshield systems, have announced that their patented Lyre microphone clips will be introduced this month across their well-known range of Modular Suspension and Modular Windshield systems, replacing the original four-point elasticated suspension design.
The W-shaped, virtually unbreakable Lyre clip (shown at the end of this news release) made its debut in Rycote’s S-series windshield and suspension system last year, following several years of R&D effort. The aim was to create a one-piece, firm but flexible suspension clip that would isolate microphones from handling noise and stand-borne vibrations more efficiently than traditional elasticated suspension cradles or elastic-suspended clips. more
Stereo-to-5.1 Upmix Processor & SMP200 Mic Preamp ‘Sneak-previewed’ at IBC
Wakefield, UK, September 2008: Surround and stereo microphone manufacturer SoundField previewed two new products at IBC 2008, both aimed at the broadcast market. The first, the UPM-1, is a complete departure for SoundField: it’s a hardware stereo-to-5.1 upmix processor, designed for HD broadcasters who use a lot of archive stereo material and wish to generate acceptable 5.1 broadcast mixes from stereo soundtracks.
“Most of the material broadcast by music entertainment channels, classic movie channels and sports broadcasters is of course in stereo — pretty much anything that dates from before three or four years ago,” explains Ken Giles, Managing Director of SoundField. “Multi-channel recordings are hardly ever available to properly remix this material into 5.1, to say nothing of the budget and time to do so. So most broadcasters are using the original stereo, which is very disconcerting for HD viewers, as the audio keeps switching to 5.1 for recent footage and then collapsing back into stereo for older material.” more
Prism Sound’s highly-regarded MEA-2 stereo analogue equalizer and MLA-2 stereo compressor have both undergone major upgrades to improve their performance and update their appearance.
On show for the first time at AES in San Francisco (Booth 725), the new versions of these two modern-day classics were updated by engineer/producer Leif Mases who first developed the MEA-2 and MLA-2 for Prism Sound in 1995. Leif’s work with a diverse range of artists including Abba, Led Zeppelin, Jeff Beck and Black Sabbath, as well as co-ownership of the renowned Marcus Studios in London, provided the essential experience using the “tools of the trade” needed to define and implement new and improved professional audio components. more
