NO BULL: LECTROSONICS TRAMPLED, KICKED, CRUSHED AND STILL GOING STRONG

mharrier_hi.jpgSan Antonio, TX – July 2011… As any broadcast professional knows all too well; dirt, dust, and moisture can be the kiss of death for electronic equipment. (PBR) performers with wireless microphone technology. Make no mistake: this is a dirty job, and it’s a challenge routinely encountered by audio engineer Mark Harrier and his crew as they outfit not only the bull riders, but the bull fighters—the guys who keep the bull from killing the rider once he is thrown to the ground. So what kind of wireless equipment endures this type of handling? You guessed it—Lectrosonics. more

New York–June 21, 2011: In her ascent towards becoming a top voiceover artist, Joan Baker’s success has taken root on two basic principles: “know your voice” and “choose the right equipment.” After getting her start by doing cartoon character voices on cable television, Baker’s talent was quickly spotted by several top voiceover agencies, giving her a platform from which to drive her own success and become aligned with the right tools of the trade. One her first decisions was to use Neumann microphones.

Since then, Baker has built her career not only on doing traditional voiceover work for clients like CNN, the Tribeca Film Festival and The Biography Channel, but her career has blossomed in other areas such as narrating audio-books and teaching aspiring voiceover artists how to take the next step in their own careers. scaled_e1306839267.jpg

Ely, Minn. – June 8, 2011: On one frigid afternoon this past February, a crew from Classical Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) and the A cappella vocal group, Cantus, MPR’s 2010-2011 Artist-in-Residence, took a three-minute pitch black ride down to the 27th level of the Soudan Underground Mines to record a performance 2,341 feet below the surface. This audio and video venture — which highlights the most recent installment in Classical MPR’s Sonic Architecture series — relied on a pair of Sennheiser MKH 800s and Neumann KM 140 microphones to capture the performance and the natural acoustics of the cave.

The performance, which was produced into a video and radio piece using DTS Neural Sound, presented several challenges for Rob Byers, technical director at MPR. Byers had to select a range of gear that would perform in an unorthodox “one-take” environment. “There more

Dr. Charles Chen Ph.D. & Lauten Audio File for New Patent

Invention allows for a balanced output directly from the condenser capsule

Dr. Charles Chen Ph.D. at work on new Lauten Audio microphone designsSan Jose, CA - June 2, 2011 - Lauten Audio and Dr. Charles Chen Ph.D. filed for a new patent related to microphone capsule biasing. The invention relates to an innovative double-bias circuit for condenser microphone capsules that generates a balanced output directly from a condenser capsule without the need for a phase splitter or transformer in the circuit path.

“For the traditional single bias circuit, only one signal is retrieved from the capsule. To generate two balanced signals from the single signal, the options are to use an output transformer, or a phase-splitter circuit in the case of a transformer-less design. The problem is these types of phase splitter circuits restrict the dynamic range allowed,” said Dr. Chen.
