Fairlight Technology Helps RTBF Win A Prestigious IBC Award

A workflow solution designed by Fairlight’s French business partner EuroMedia Technologies played an integral part in helping RTBF, the national broadcaster for the French-speaking areas of Belgium, win a coveted IBC Award for Innovation at the recent 2009 IBC Convention.

EuroMedia Technologies’ AV-Process 3.0 CCE (Crystal Core edition) software was developed to work with all Fairlight products running Fairlight’s latest CC-1 engine. This new media management software was installed at RTBF last year, along with a number of new Fairlight workstations. It is now handling all audio and video files, including Avid and EVS input and outputs, enabling RTBF to automate its entire production workflow.

RTBF won the IBC Award for Most Innovative Project in Content Management after its NumProd team submitted a project entitled Service Oriented Architecture at RTBF, which showed how the broadcaster had migrated its broadcast operations to a tapeless workflow.

New sQ architecture capabilities simplify, extend and enable file-based workflows

New possibilities and efficiencies for broadcast content creators and distributors

IBC, Amsterdam, 11 September 2009: At IBC Quantel demonstrated three new extensions to the sQ server system architecture: Virtualisation, an Open Identity Model and Web Services. Building upon the already class-leading video and file-based workflows of the sQ architecture, the extensions deliver new workflow opportunities, greatly increase customer choice and dramatically simplify the integration and management challenge of file-based operations.

The new capabilities are open and inclusive enabling Quantel, its customers and 3rd parties to build new co-operative workflows using modern IT technologies and standards.

These new architecture components are not pie-in-the-sky futures, they are real developments that today enable Final Cut Pro to offer true broadcast workflow when partnered with sQ systems (see separate release) as well as remote working (see below). This is only the beginning; in the future these building blocks will underpin more

EVS and Quantel present advanced production workflow integration

Open technology enables seamless file interchange

EVS and Quantel have announced advanced production workflow integration between the two companies’ production systems. This has been made possible by the recent adoption of the Panasonic DVCPRO HD Codec by EVS, which is now natively supported by EVS production servers and by Quantel’s new file system virtualisation technology. Integrated workflows featuring file interchange between the EVS XS server controlled by IPDirector and Quantel sQ production systems was demonstrated at the Quantel booth during IBC2009.

The recently released native support of the Panasonic DVCPRO HD codec by EVS enables its production servers, such as the XT[2] and the XS, to offer extended workflow capabilities and smoother content exchange with Quantel sQ production systems. The exchange between EVS and Quantel is based on MXF OP1A file transfer, which can be managed manually or automatically depending on the system configuration.
