INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Universal Audio, a leading manufacturer of audio production hardware and software products, recently completed work on a recording studio designed and built for its new Scotts Valley, California facility. In order to reduce room reflections and frequency anomalies, Auralex Acoustics, Inc., the industry leader in innovative sound control solutions, outfitted the studio with its state-of-the art acoustical treatments.
“The control room, which is used to test new hardware and software products, as well as operate as a private recording facility in the evenings, was experiencing lingering issues with flutter echoes and low-end buildup.” explained Will Shanks, Universal Audio’s Product Manager. “Auralex provided the solution with a number of products, including its SonoSuede Pro System, its best-selling LENRD bass traps as well as its pArtScience SpaceArrays and Screen6 System, which I was first introduced to by Russ Berger himself. The Space Arrays are fantastic, and delivered exactly what we wanted.” more

Toronto, Ontario, Canada – June 24, 2008 … There’s been no shortage of talking points so far: arguments with the fourth official, German coach Joachim Löw’s touchline ban, Bastian Schweinsteiger’s red card and his tremendous comeback in the quarter final against Portugal; and then, of course, the usual transfer gossip… And when the journalists assemble just after 12 o’clock for the German Football Federation (DFB)’s daily press conference, it’s the SWR (Südwestrundfunk, “Southwest Broadcasting”) that’s responsible for transmitting the sound and images from its HDTV OB truck FÜ2HD – in which an mc²66 console from Lawo resides at the nerve center of operations. more
Classic & New Madrid has maintained its reputation for technical excellence by installing Fairlight Constellation large-scale digital recording, editing and mixing systems into three of its audio studios.
The facility, which was specifically set up to handle musical production, music and soundtrack creation and sound post-production, installed the new systems as part of a general refurbishment programme. It has also invested in Fairlight’s Crystal Core Engines (CC-1) and integrated Pyxis SD non-linear video systems. This provides the facility with the very latest audio mixing technology, enabling it to offer clients a formidable combination of speed and functionality.
Technical Director Quim Rubí says: “The new Constellations replace Fairlight Prodigy 1 (MFX) systems that were originally installed in 1999. The fact that we have always been very satisfied with Fairlight’s technology is a key reason why we have chosen this upgrade path.” more

Kaktovik, Alaska – June 2008… With each day seemingly colder than the one before, a combination of scientists and a BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) production crew recently set out to document the effects of global warming on the Arctic frontier. With a focus on the plight of the region’s Polar Bears as well as the melting permafrost, the group worked from their base camp in this northern village on the Beaufort Sea coast and traveled by helicopter in search of the highly dangerous, yet vulnerable animals. Capturing audio on a mission of this nature is challenging enough, and in this harsh environment—with sub-zero-degree temperatures and high wind—the task becomes even more difficult. Wireless microphones were a necessity and, to ensure production quality worthy of the BBC, the mission critical performance attributes of Lectrosonics wireless technology were placed into service. more
