Fairlight Technology Helps Capital TV Expand In Cyprus

Capital TV engineers Thanasis Kolovos (back) and George VereketisCyprus-based broadcaster Capital TV has invested in a Fairlight Xynergi with a 12-fader sidecar, which has been installed in the broadcaster’s first dedicated audio post production suite.

Capital TV, which is based in Limassol and produces a daily mix of local news, magazine and sports programming, recently decided to expand its business by offering facilities for dubbing and trailer production.

After taking advice from KEM Electronics in Athens, engineers George Vereketis and Thanasis Kolovos chose Fairlight Xynergi because it offered all the speed and flexibility they needed to increase workflow through the new suite.

Fairlight Product Specialist Manos Govatzidakis, from KEM Electronics, says: “Capital TV was keen to buy a system that could speed up workflow, thus enabling the facility to maximise its investment in its new audio post room. The Fairlight Xynergi was the perfect solution because its ADR tool makes it very easy to import scripts for dubbing. It also offers exceptional facilities for capturing uncompressed video and is the only editing and mixing system on the market that allows recording to take place at the same time.”

Engineers at the facility are now using their new audio suite to lay down music, effects and Greek voice-over tracks. These are edited and mixed using Xynergi’s unique user interface that allows access to a comprehensive set of tools, as well as commonly used Windows applications such as Email, Word and Excel. Xynergi also makes it easy to export video with the new audio tracks to the server for playout, or to DVD if the programme is going to an external customer.

Mario Schmitz, Fairlight’s head of European Operations, says: “The system was installed at the end of August and the engineers were given extensive training. They are now very happy with the results they are achieving and feel confident that Fairlight technology will make all the difference to the success of their new business venture.”
