SALT LAKE CITY — July 16, 2008 — Utah Scientific today announced that Tualatin Valley Community Television (TVCTV) has selected a UTAH-400/64 routing switcher, the Utah SC-4 control system, and associated controllers and control panels to support sophisticated local access community programming for about 450,000 viewers in 14 communities in the Washington County, Ore. area.

A new Utah customer, TVCTV’s router (video frame-loaded 40×24 SDI and 24×24 analog; audio frame-loaded 24×16 AES and 40×16 analog) will be installed by integrator Advanced Broadcast Systems to replace an outmoded, 12-year-old analog router from another vendor.

“At a previous job, I worked with a Utah router that was purchased in 1992,” said Jordan Beisel, TVCTV chief engineer. “That router was durable, flexible, and reliable — very impressive. Even more impressive is the fact that it is still in use and still supported by Utah. When other companies stop manufacturing equipment, they say to their customers, ‘Good luck figuring out how to make it work in the future.’ But Utah never does that. I did my research when deciding what to buy this time, but in the end, the best choice was Utah Scientific.”

TVCTV’s programming includes local government meeting coverage, community productions, and call-in shows. The broadcaster has three production studios, seven remote “civic” studios located in local government meeting rooms, two small mobile units, and one fully digital mobile production truck. TVCTV broadcasts via Verizon in SDI digital format, and via Comcast in analog format, so that the UTAH-400’s ability to route analog and digital signals simultaneously without external equipment will make for a simpler, more streamlined and efficient operation.

More UTAH-400 features prized by TVCTV are signal-presence detection to enable automated reporting, conservative power consumption, and redundant power supplies for enhanced reliability.
