MINNEAPOLIS, MN (May 16, 2008) – Vaddio, the leading designer and OEM distributor of specialty PTZ cameras and high-end camera control systems used in the broadcasting, audio/visual and videoconferencing industries, introduced the newest addition to the ProductionVIEW line of camera control systems, ProductionVIEW HD. Designed to handle the most demanding live broadcast or staging events, yet it’s still simple enough to allow a novice to control a multi-camera shoot like a pro. ProductionVIEW HD integrates PTZ camera control and multi-format HD/SD live switching with real-time graphics and effects into one easy-to-use control console.
“The completely redesigned control surface gives system users real-time knobs and switches to control functions, as opposed to an endless programming menu,” stated Rob Sheeley, president and CEO. “Because ProductionVIEW HD is a live broadcast production console, not a computer, the entire system produces only one frame of delay – a critical requirement for live production where image magnification is used.”
The system’s multi-format 6 x 2 switcher accepts any combination of input signals from HD component video, RGBHV and SD video (HD at component 1080P, 1080i and 720p; SD video Y/C or composite; and RGBHV up to UXGA resolutions). All inputs feature both up/down conversion capabilities, while other mixers only include two discrete outputs for independent program feeds – each having its own user selectable output resolutions.
A wide variety of transitions, including cuts, dissolves and wipes, can be achieved through user-selectable buttons built into the control surface. Furthermore, a new Lower Screen Graphic (LSG) function allows users to add lower third graphics to their presentations.
Camera control elements include a broadcast-style Hall Effect Joystick with twist handle zoom control, as well as separate Pan, Tilt and Speed control knobs. There are six discrete auto-sensing RS-232 camera control ports and 12 camera pre-sets per camera for storing frequent shots. Additional lens features include a large production-style Manual Focus wheel, an Iris control knob allowing for live manual adjustments, push control buttons for auto iris and focus, and a Zoom Speed knob to control the speed of the electronic zoom lens.
ProductionVIEW HD is compatible with Vaddio, Sony, and Canon PTZ camera systems.

Hayward, Calif. — May 14, 2008 — PANORAMAdtv, the video products division of Wohler Technologies Inc., today announced that Canal Overseas, a division of leading French broadcast group Canal+, is using the HDCC-200A HD/SD-SDI closed-captioning bridge to enable efficient handling and storage of World System Teletext (WST) subtitle data within an HD/SD playout infrastructure. By encoding subtitles within an HD ingest workflow and subsequently decoding those subtitles back at the time of playout, this new card supports a single cost-effective video ingest and playout workflow regardless of the availability of subtitles. It also adds to the bottom line by eliminating the need for duplication of SD and HD video storage. more
May 14, 2008—IntraCom Systems’ Software IP Intercom System, VCOM, was a key element of the complex communications and IFB system for the global Pangea Day event on May 10 in Los Angeles.
Pangea Day is a global event bringing the world together through film, live music, and visionary speakers. It was broadcast live in seven languages to millions of people worldwide through the internet, television, and mobile phones. The production involved the real-time interaction of the main venue in Los Angeles with live shows in London; Cairo, Egypt; Mumbai, India; Kigali, Rowanda; and Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
Jess Heimlich, a professional intercom industry veteran with Digital Communications Systems, Las Vegas, led the communications team from the Los Angeles site, which was equipped with a Telex ADAM system in the main production truck. VCOM was used as the interconnect between the local venue and the remotes—each of which required a communications path and IFB circuit. The VCOM System accomplished this via an IP connection at each venue carried over the public internet. “This new technique offers greatly expanded capability as well as far superior audio quality and intelligibility compared with typical telephone connections. The high cost of international telephone circuits being used for extended periods over several days of set up was also eliminated,” said David Brand, Chief Development Officer, IntraCom Systems, LLC. more
