Bitcentral‘s Precis end-to-end digital newsroom solution goes live at three television news stations in a single day; complete installations in three weeks

IRVINE, CALIF. - January 3, 2007 -
Bitcentral Inc., a leading provider of news production, archiving and distribution solutions to local television stations, has fully installed and gone live with its groundbreaking Precis end-to-end digital news production solution at three television news stations in a single day. The complete personnel training, installation, logistics and conversion of the broadcast stations from tape to complete digital workflows were done in a mere three weeks according to the specific needs of the respective stations. The following stations went live with the Precis solution on Friday, December 14:

• KSEE in Fresno, CA

• KMTV in Omaha, NE

• KTVM in Bozeman, MT

The three Precis installations were scheduled for the same date in efforts to complete full conversion in the small window of opportunity between the November ratings and end of year holiday periods. Adhering to the specific needs of each station, Bitcentral‘s staff compressed the installation and training projects, which usually span across eight to six weeks, into a short three week turnaround according to station schedules. These swift, yet smooth projects set a record time in system configuration, installation and commissioning.

“The massive installation was Y2K-like,” said Dave Bukowski, Senior Broadcast Engineer at KSEE in Fresno, California, which now fully deploys Precis. “We were scrambling to get everything prepared and ready for our station‘s launch on Precis. The moment came, and everything went so smooth; we didn‘t need dub reels and everything just went very well from beginning to end. The operation was virtually flawless and within budget, not to mention within such a short period of time.”

“BitCentral strives to meet the needs of our customers in every way possible,” explained John King, Vice President of Engineering for Bitcentral. “The success of a project is not just determined by how well the system works but as much by the experience of the customer during the transition. Highly coordinated schedules, quality training and an open-minded flexible approach to the implementation are key to any successful project.”

Bitcentral‘s Precis, an innovation in digital news production systems, is a non-proprietary, fully turnkey play-to-air digital news management system. The all file-based workflow solution is browser based and highly scalable, with virtually no limits on the number of users that can access the system. The system delivers an integrated on-line archive with inexpensive commodity storage for SD or HD video content, as well as provides the stations with a complete “eco-system,” featuring full integration with iNews, ENPS and editing software of choice, including Canopus ® Edius, Sony ® Vegas and Adobe ® Premier Pro.
